Johnson City, Tenn. (Nov. 20, 2017) ---The Delaware State men’s basketball team came up empty in a bid for its first road win of the season this evening. The Hornets fell to E. Tennessee State 81-57 to wrap up a four-game road swing.

Desonta Bradford led four E. Tennessee State in double figures with 16 points. Bradford was 4-for-6 from the field, including perfect shooting on four three-point attempts, and 4-of-6 at the free throw line.

Jalen McCloud came off the bench to add 15 points (6-8 FGs) for the Buccaneers.

Sophomore guard Kobe Gantz was high scorer for Delaware State with 17 points, highlighted by 8-for-9 shooting from the free throw line, and also dished out a team-high four assists.

Senior Kavon Waller, playing in his first game of the season, was second on the Hornets with nine points on 3-of-7 shooting. Each of his shot attempts was from three-point range.    

Delaware State started quickly in the game, opening up an 8-2 lead on two free throws by Gantz with 15:08 left in the first half.

The Hornets led 16-13 before East Tennessee State took control of the game.

The Buccaneers ended the first half on a 12-0 run to hold a 25-16 lead at the break.

Delaware State missed its last five shots and committed seven turnovers to close out the half.

The Hornets scored the first six points of the second half, and pulled to within 26-22 on a three-pointer by Gantz with 18:30 left in the game.

Tennessee State answered with a 24-8 run, and opened up a 50-30 lead on a three-point shot by Kanayo Obi-Rapu at the 11:39 mark of the second half.

The Bucs led by as many as 29 points later in the half.

Delaware State shot 26.1% in the first half (6-23) and 39.6% for the game (19-48).

The Hornets return home Nov. 25 for a home game against Georgian Court. Game time is 4 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
