Dover, Del. (Mar. 27, 2018) --- Delaware State senior guard Artem Tavakalyan will receive some national recognition this weekend.  Tavakalyan is one of 128 men’s basketball college seniors selected to compete in the first 3X3 National Championship, to be held from March 30 to April 1 in San Antonio, Tex., site of the NCAA Final 4.

The tournament will feature teams of seniors who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility from all 32 Division 1 men’s college basketball conferences.

Tavakalyan had his best year with the Hornets this past season. He was tops among Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) players in three-point accuracy at .421, hitting 45 of his 107 shots from beyond the arc during the 2017-18 season.  

In addition to leading DSU with 45 three-pointers, Tavakalyn was second on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 pg), and third in assists (49) this year. 
He recorded two double-doubles and nailed five three-pointers in two games as a senior, once highlighting his career-best 23-point performance vs. North Carolina A&T on Jan. 8 and during a 22-point outing against Morgan State on Mar. 1.


The 3x3 National Championship will begin on Friday with 24 pool play games streamed live on Twitter from 7 p.m.-midnight EST and continue on Saturday with another 24 pool play games on 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.

The event will conclude on Sunday April 1 with the quarterfinals broadcast live on Twitter from 2-3 p.m. EST, and the semifinals, third place game and championship broadcast live on ESPN2 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. EST.
