Dover, Del. (Apr. 26) --- George Washington combined for nine runs in the sixth and seventh innings en route to a 12-4 win over Delaware State at Soldier Field today. The Colonials won their second game against the Hornets this season to improve to 21-21 this year. DSU fell to 15-20.
Nate Fassnacht was 2-for-4 with a home run and four runs batted in to lead the Colonials. GW's Bobby Campbell also had a homer and two RBI, while teammate Cody Bryant also drove in two.
Jaylen Zielecki had a two run homer for the Hornets.
The Colonials opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning.
Delaware State scored two in the fourth to tie the game. Evan Regez, who singled in the inning, scored DSU's first run on a wild pitch. The Hornets scored their second run on a bases loaded walk.
George Washington scored five runs in the sixth inning to open up a 7-2 lead. Campbell hit a solo home run in the inning. Fassnacht's three-run blast highlighted the Colonials' four-run seventh.
GW led 12-2 when Zielecki hit his third homer of the season, a two-run shot over the fence in right center.
Ciaran Devenney had two hits in three at bats for the Hornets.
Delaware State starter Darnel Maisonet (0-1) suffered the loss.
DSU returns to MEAC action this weekend at Norfolk State. The Hornets and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday and close out the series with a single game on Sunday.
