Towson, Md. (Apr. 12, 2017) ---Andrew Cassard doubled in the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Towson a 7-6 victory over Delaware State at Schuerholz Park today.

Towson scored two runs in the first inning and three in the fourth to hold a 5-0 lead.
Delaware State made up the deficit in one inning, scoring five runs in the seventh to tie the game. Kwestin Smith walked to lead off the DSU seventh. Smith advanced to second on a balk and scored the Hornets’ first run on a single up the middle by Darnel Maisonet. The next batter, Ciaran Devenney, singled to left to put runners at second and first. Maisonet scored from second and Devenney moved to third on a Towson error to pull the Hornets to within 5-2. Devenney scored from third on a ground out by Jared Gillis to cut the Tigers’ lead to 5-3. Jaylen Zielecki followed with a walk and Todd Henry reached base on an infield single to put DSU runners at first and second. There were two outs in the inning when Devin Beverly smacked a double down the third base line, scoring Zielecki and Henry to tie the game at 5-5.
Towson responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh to open up a 6-5 lead.
Delaware State tied the game again with a run in the top of the eighth on a two-out single by Gillis. Smith, who again walked to lead off the inning, scored on the Gillis hit.
Towson put a runner on base in the eighth and ninth, but the DSU bullpen kept the Tigers off the board to forced extra innings.
The Hornets had a man on in the 10th but failed to score, setting up the heroics by Towson’s Cassard in the bottom of the inning.
Devenney had two hits, while Gillis and Beverly drove in two runs each for the Hornets.
Towson’s Richard Miller was 3-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in. Cassard had four hits and the game-winning RBI in five at bats.
Hornet reliever Travis Dill (1-5) was the losing pitcher, while Towson’s Matt Allen (2-1) came out of the bullpen to take the win.
Delaware State’s Garrett Coverdale threw 1.1 innings of relief, getting all four outs via the strikeout.
