Newark, Del. (Apr. 9,2019) --- Delaware collected eight extra base hits, including five triples, to highlight a 13-2 victory over Delaware State at Bob Hannah Stadium Tuesday evening. The Hens had 14 hits overall off four Hornet pitchers.

UD won its fifth straight game and 11th in a row over Delaware State to improve to 11-19, while the Hornets fell to 10-18.

Erik Bowren was two-for-five with a triple and three RBI and Zach Lesher had three hits, including a double to highlight the Hens’ 14-hit attack.

Delaware State had eight hits in the game. Darnell Maisonet was three-for-four with a double, while Jared Gillis had a double and single in four at bats for DSU.

The Hornets opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning off Delaware Starter Jack Dubecq. Maisonet doubled with one out and scored on a two-out double by Cole Garey to give DSU the early lead.

Delaware scored two in the bottom of the second Hornet starter Jeremy Carrow to pull ahead.

The Hens tacked on four more off Carrow after two were out in the second to open up a 6-1 lead. UD was aided by two Delaware State errors in the inning.

The Hornets got one back in the fourth when Gillis doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a sac fly by John Weglarz to cut UD’s lead to 6-2.

Delaware scored seven runs over their next four at bats off the DSU bullpen to take control of the game.

Dubecq (2-3) was the winning pitcher for the Hens, allowing seven hits and two runs, while striking out four and walking two in six innings of work.

Carrow (1-4) gave up six hits and six runs in three innings to suffer the loss for the Hornets.   

Delaware State returns to MEAC action with a three-game series at Coppin State in Hanover, Md., this weekend (Apr. 12-14).
