Hanover, Md. (Mar. 26, 2018) ---Derek Lohr singled in the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to lift Coppin State to a 3-2 MEAC North victory over Delaware State this afternoon.  The win completed a three-game series sweep for the Eagles.

Coppin State’s game-winning rally began with two outs and bases empty. DSU reliever Nick Ruhl struck out the first two batters in the 11th before Marcos Castillo reached on an error. Castillo moved to third base by an error on a pickoff attempt. Two batters later, Lohr smacked a single to center to score Castillo, giving the Eagles the walk-off win.

The loss overshadowed a strong pitching performance by Delaware State starter Darnel Maisonet, allowed just two runs, one earned, and struck a career-high 12 batters in seven innings.

The Hornets opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Todd Henry doubled to lead off the game and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Garey. Miguel Rivera singled in

John Weglarz for DSU’s second run of the inning. Rivera had two of the Hornets’ six hits in the game.

Coppin State scored an unearned run in the third inning and tied the game with a run in the seventh.

Delaware State committed five errors in the contest.
