Dover, Del. (May 3, 2018) --- The Delaware State baseball team looks to lock up a berth in the 2018 MEAC Tournament during a three-game series against Maryland-Eastern Shore at Soldier Field this weekend. The revised weekend schedule has the series opener on Friday (May 3) at 3 p.m. Saturday’s scheduled doubleheader is still on.
The Hornets are currently third in the 2018 MEAC North race with a 7-13 record. MDES is fourth at 5-16, two-and-a-half games behind DSU. Delaware State has four league games remaining, while the Hawks have three.
The top three teams in the MEAC North standings qualify for the upcoming MEAC Tournament in Ormond Beach, Fla.
Delaware State has won four of six meetings with the Hawks this season, including a three-game sweep on Apr. 21-22.
Darnell Maisonet is DSU’s top hitter, batting .321 this season. He also leads the Hornets with five home runs and is second on the team with 21 runs batted in.
Maisonet has also served as the Hornets’ No. 3 starting pitcher of late, posting a 2-2 won-loss record and team-best 2.92 earned run average. He also 40 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched.
The last time the Hornets and Hawks met (Apr. 21-22), Maisonet hit two home runs in the series opener and struck out 11 batters in a complete game shutout in the finale.
