Dover, Del. (Mar. 13, 2018) --- Third baseman Richard Miller was 4-for-5 with five runs batted in to lead Towson to a 12-2 win over Delaware State at Soldier Field this afternoon.

The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 3-11 this season, while the Hornets dropped their 11th in a row to fall to 2-13.  

Colin Gambit drove in two Towson runs, while Tiger relievers Alex Parker and Mason Anderson combined to throw six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five.

Third baseman Jared Gillis (so.) was 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in both Delaware State runs.  Gillis singled in the Hornets’ first run to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning. His run-scoring single in the third tied the score at 2-2.

Towson responded by scoring the last 10 runs of the game.

The Tigers led 7-2 in the eighth inning when Miller hit a grand slam and Bo Plagge followed with a solo shot to put the game away.

Delaware State starter Darnel Maisonet (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He allowed three hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out five and walking three in four innings.

Todd Henry (2-4), John Weglarz (2-3) and Maisonet (2-4) also had two hits for the Hornets.

Delaware State will host Navy on Thur. (Mar. 15) at 3 p.m. before beginning MEAC North play with a three-games series at home against Norfolk State this weekend. The Hornets and Spartans will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m. and a single game on Sunday also at noon.
