Dover, Del. (Oct. 5, 2016) --- The Delaware State women’s golf team had two players in the top four to highlight a second place showing in the Hornet Invitational at Eagle Creek on Dover Air Force Base.

The Hornets posted a two-day team total of 699 in the event. Hampton was first with a combined score of 679, while Savannah State was third at 716.

Ireanna Peete was the top finisher for the Hornets, placing third overall with a two-day total of 161 (+21), eleven strokes behind individual champion Rachelle Orme of Savannah State (150). Peete followed Monday’s score of 80 with an 81 in the final round on Tuesday.

DSU’s Samyra Lewis was tied for fourth with a two-day score of 166 (+26). Lewis cut two strokes off her day one score of 84 by posting an 82 in Tuesday’s final round.

Delaware State’s Iyana Monagan was tied for ninth with a two-day total of 183.

DSU’s Samantha Van Dort was 12th in the field with a total of 190, while Allison Ambrose rounded out the Hornet competitors with a two-day score of 199.
