Macon, Ga. (Apr. 27, 2019) ---Mercer scored seven goals in the first seven-and-a-half minutes and were never threatened in  23-2 victory Southern Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Delaware State in the Hornets’ 2019 finale today.  

Kelly Hagerty tallied four goals to lead 16 scorers for the Bears. Four players added two goals each, including Hailey Rhatigan, who also collected six assists for a game-high eight points.

Rhatigan scored the first goal of the game 29 seconds in the contest and struck again two minutes later to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Delaware State trailed 7-0 before getting on the board on a goal by freshman Emmy McGill off a feed from Olivia Summerville at the 20:53 mark of the first period. McGill had four goals in the last two games and closed out the season with 10 goals and 11 points, second only to Summerville, who had team highs of 13 goals and 16 points.

DSU’s Tamrin Swann scored the first goal of the second half to cut the Bears’ lead to 16-2 with 26:47 left to play. Swann was third on the Hornets with eight goals and nine points this season.

Delaware State closed out its 2019 season with a 1-11 overall record and 0-5 mark in the Southern Conference. Mercer improved to 8-9 and 4-1.
