Dover, Del (Feb. 24, 2019) --- East Carolina led 8-0 midway through the first period and never looked back in a 16-2 women’s lacrosse victory over Delaware State in the Hornets’ 2019 opener at Alumni Stadium today.

Ally Stanton led 10 ECU scorers with three goals and three assists, while four Pirates tallied two goals each.

East Carolina scored its first goal on a free position shot by Camryn Pennypacker just one-minute-seven seconds into the game, and opened up an 8-0 lead when Nicole Legar scored off a pass from Brittany Borchers at the 14:57 mark of the opening period.

Delaware State scored its first goal of the season on a free position shot by Olivia Summerville to cut the Pirates’ lead to 8-1 with 12:43 left in the first period.

The Hornets trailed 16-1 when DSU freshman Emmy McGill closed the scoring with 14 minutes remaining in the game.

The Hornets return to action on Mar. 6 at Gardner Webb.
