Frederica, Del. (Mar. 17, 2018) --- Delaware State notched a season-high in goals and junior midfielder Olivia Summerville scored a career-best four times, but it wasn’t enough in a 20-8 loss to Presbyterian College at DE Turf today.
A total of 11 players scored for Presbyterian. Kathleen Gerrits led the Blue Hose with four goals, while Kelly Hyman and Natalie Barnett tallied three each.
The four goals by Summerville raised her season total to a team-high seven. She’s also tied with Lauren Perry for the team lead with eight points.
Delaware State scored first when Perry fired a free position shot past Presbyterian goal keeper Sophia Cuzzupe three-minutes-13-seconds into the contest. The goal was the sixth of the season for Perry, who has scored in each game.
Presbyterian answered with back-to-back goals, one by Gerrits, to grab a 2-1 lead.
Delaware State freshman Tamrin Swann scored her first collegiate goal with 19:46 left in the first period to tie the score at 2-2.
After the Blue Hose regained the lead 3-2, Swann scored her second goal of the game on a free position shot to tie the score again.
Presbyterian led 5-3 when Summerville scored the first of her four goals with 13:44 to go in the opening period.
The Blue Hose answered with a seven-goal run to lead 12-4 at the half.
Summerville scored three times in the second period for the Hornets.
Delaware State returns to action on Mar. 23 at Coastal Carolina. Game time is 12 p.m. in Conway, S.C.
