Dover, Del. (Apr. 23, 2017) --- Detroit Mercy used a nine-goal run to break open a close game in a 19-5 victory over Delaware State in an Atlantic Sun contest at Alumni Stadium today.
The Hornets only trailed 6-3 after a goal by Brionna Watkins with 16:21 left in the first period, but the Titans answered with nine consecutive scores to break open the game. Morgan Girardi and Kelsi Pritchard tallied two goals each during the Detroit Mercy rally.
Girardi led all players with six goals and recorded an assist to tie for game-high honors with seven points. Lexie Kinmond added four goals and three assists to also record seven points for the Titans.
A total of eight players scored in the game for Detroit Mercy.
Iman Hassan led Delaware State with two goals, including the game’s first score four minutes into the game. Hassan has 51 career goals, tops all time at DSU.
The goal by Watkins was her fourth of the season, while Tai Galmore (7) and Kayla Yurkanin (8) also posted scores for the Hornets.
Detroit Mercy led 11-3 at the half. The Titans outshot the Hornets 44-14 in the contest.
Delaware State will close out its season at home next Saturday (Apr. 29) against Old Dominion. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The Hornets will honor their 2017 seniors prior to the contest.
