NORFOLK, Va. - For the first time this season, the Delaware State softball team has earned two awards with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference weekly honors as senior Jordan Reid (Accokeek, Md.) was named the Player of the Week and freshman Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Reid hit .800 with one double, seven runs and three RBI to aid the Hornets to a three-game sweep of Howard this past weekend. The center fielder hit a perfect 3-for-3 in the second game against the Bison and also stole four bases and added six putouts defensively during the series. Reid had missed the previous three games with a concussion. The reigning MEAC Player of the Year also earned Player of the Week honors for the week of April 2.
Through 36 games played for the Hornets this season, Reid is hitting .419, good for second in the MEAC and 30th in the NCAA. She leads the team with 44 hits, 36 runs scored, four triples and 13 stolen bases while adding in six doubles.
Green, last week's MEAC Player of the Week, continued her hot stretch by going 6-for-11 (.545) with five runs and four RBI in Del State's three victories. The outfielder was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI in the 12-3 win over Howard.
Green is second on the team with a .371 batting average in 37 games played. She has posted 33 hits, four doubles and three home runs with 20 RBI for the Hornets during her rookie campaign.
Florida A&M's Jennifer Lindsey was named the MEAC Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week.
Del State is currently 22-16-1 on the year and 11-3 in the MEAC. They wrap up non-conference play tomorrow with a 5 p.m. contest against the Towson Tigers (25-26) at the Hornets' Nest.
