Charles "Chuck" Shelton is entering his first year as assistant athletics director of football operations. His duties will include managing the day-to-day administrative tasks of the Hornets football program.
Shelton is bringing over 30 years of collegiate athletic administration and coaching experience, along with professional coaching experience to the position. He has served as assistant coach at Northeast Missouri University, Eastern New Mexico, Wichita State and the University of Cincinnati. His head coaching experience include Drake University, Utah State and the University of Pacific. Sheldon was a four-time conference Coach of the Year at three different schools and was a two-time NCAA District 6 Coach of the Year. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.
His professional coaching experiences include serving as Head Coach of the New York City Hawks (Arena) and assistant coach of the NFL Europe-Amsterdam franchise.
Sheldon also served three years as the Executive Director of the former Silicon Valley Football Classic. He also served as the athletics director at Pratt Kansas Junior College and associate athletics director at Drake University.
Most recently, he served as an athletic consultant at Utah State University (2004-2005) and at Delaware State (January 2006 to July 2006). While at DSU, he did the feasibility studies that led to the addition of NCAA Women’s Equestrian and also organized and established the first National Football Foundation Chapter in the State of Delaware.
The Rolla, Missouri native received his BS degree in Physical Education and his MS in Education from Pittsburg State (Kansas).
