Harry J. Sanchez has six years experience with Delaware State University. Recognizing the value of education as a very intricate part in ones life, he went back to school after serving a lustrous career with the United States Air Force and earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Behavioral Science at Wilmington University, and soon thereafter earned his Masters degree in Social Work at Delaware State University.
Harry’s career includes over ten years as a social worker with the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services and the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs. Harry has served Delaware State University as the Project Director for the Delaware State University Capitol Park Community Center, and Project Coordinator for Delaware State University’s Domestic Violence Initiative with the College of Health and Public Policy, Department of Social Work, whereas, he functioned as, a Field Practice Student Supervisor, and an Instructor for several Department of social work courses. Prior to his appointment to the department of Athletic Services for Student-Athletes, he functioned as the Director for the Office of Mentoring and Advising.
He also serves as a board member to two human service agencies, People’s Place II, and the Kent and Sussex County Alcohol and Drug Counseling Inc. Additionally, he sits on the First State RC & D Home Repair Project oversight committee.
Harry has been a member or currently is a member of the following professional organizations: National Association of Social Workers, American Counseling Association, Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development, National Association of Puerto Rican/ Hispanic Social Workers, Latino Social Workers Organization, and The Puerto Rican Association for Community Affairs. Harry served as the Kent County Chairperson for the Delaware Governor's Advisory Council for Hispanic Affairs. Harry is also one of the three Student Advisors for the Delaware State University Latino Student Association.
Harry’s goal is to continue to promote needed quality of life and opportunities affecting many of our Delaware State University students-athletes.
Harry resides in the Kent County area with his family. He is married to his childhood sweetheart Leida, affectionately known as Cookie, and has two daughters, Melanie and Angie, and a son named Justin.
