HORNETS WIN TO FORCE MEAC CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN

Norfolk, Va. (May 20, 2012) ---Delaware State has defeated Bethune-Cookman 3-2 to force a championship finale at Marty Miller Field this afternoon.

Elliott Gardner, Tommy Dill and Jordan Elliott combined to hold Bethune-Cookman to four hits.

Dill (3-1) was credited with the win, while Elliott tossed two shutout innings to earn the save.

The Hornets scored all three of their runs in the top of the first inning. The first run scored on a BCU error. JP Frey singled in the second run and Aaron Nardone drove home the final run on a sacrifice fly.

Delaware State is seeking its first MEAC championship since 1989. Bethune-Cookman is going for its seventh straight conference title.

The Hornets fell to the Wildcats in their last MEAC championship game appearance in 2004. 

Delaware State (40-16-1) has also tied a team record wins wins in a season, matching the 2002 club (40-19).
