Dover, Del. (Apr. 3, 2011) --- Ryan Haas drove in five runs and tossed a complete game to lead Delaware State to a 14-4 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore in a MEAC contest at Soldier Field this afternoon. The Hornets (13-15 overall; 2-1 MEAC) took two of the three games in the series.

Haas had three hits, each a double, in five at bats. He drove in the first run of the game on one-out double in the bottom of the first inning.

The Hornets opened up a 3-0 lead when Haas doubled in Troy Drummond and Scott Davis with two out in the second.

Joey Babuca had a run-scoring double in the third to give DSU a 4-0 lead.

After UMES scored three runs in the top of the fourth, the Hornets answered with two in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-3 lead. Aaron Nardone and Eddie Sorondo had run-scoring hits for DSU in the fourth.

Delaware State tallied four runs in the fifth to open a seven-run lead. Davis had a two-run single and Haas followed with a two-run double in the inning.

The Hornets led 12-4 before scoring two runs in the seventh inning to end the game due to the 10-run rule. Delaware State scored its first run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk to Drummond and Keith Hernandez singled in the second run.

Davis was 4-for-4 with a triple and three runs batted in. He's now batting a team-high .404 this season (40-for-99). Five other players had two hits each for the Hornets, who scored at least one run in each inning. DSU racked out 18 hits in the contest, including six for extra bases.

On the mound, Haas (2-0) allowed eight hits and four runs, one earned, while striking out six in seven innings.

The Hornets return to action with a home game against Towson on Wednesday. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at Soldier Field.
