Dover, Del. (Mar. 1. 2014) --- Matt McClain tossed his seventh career shutout to lead Delaware State to a 4-0 win over Akron at Soldier Field today. The Hornets won their fourth straight game to improve to 4-1 this season.

McClain allowed 11 hits, while striking four and not allowing a walk. He now has 17 career complete games with the Hornets.

Delaware State has two shutout victories this season.

The Hornets banged out 14 hits. D.J. Miller was four-for-four, including his third double of the season, with a run batted in. David Kimbrough was also four-for-four with a RBI in the contest. Aaron Nardone smacked his first home run of the year.

Delaware State scored its first run in the fourth inning. Miller singled with two outs and later scored on a double by Charles Dailey to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead.

The Hornets put three runs on the board in the seventh to stretch their lead.

Nardone hit his 12th career home run in the inning, a one-out solo shot, to give DSU a 2-0 lead. Miller doubled in a run and Kimbrough had a run-scoring single in the seventh to close out the scoring for the Hornets.

Delaware State has hit a home run in each of the last three games.

 Catcher Mike Alexander had two hits in the game for the Hornets.

Delaware State and Akron will close out the series with a doubleheader on Sunday. Game one begins at 11:00 a.m. at Soldier Field.
