HORNETS TOP NORFOLK STATE 6-5 FOR SERIES SWEEP

Norfolk, Va. (Mar. 17, 2013) --- Delaware State scored three runs in the fifth to take the lead, and relievers Zach Candeloro and Bobby Brown combined for six shutout innings in the Hornets' 6-5 win over Norfolk State at Marty Miller Field today. DSU swept the three-game series to improve to 12-6 overall and 3-0 in the MEAC.  

Delaware State trailed 5-3 before scoring three times in the fifth. The Hornets scored the go-ahead run on a ground out by J.P. Frey.

Candeloro entered the game in the Norfolk State fourth and left in the bottom of the eighth. He shut down the Spartans on five hits in 4.2 innings of work. He faced 16 batters, striking out one while not allowing a walk.

The Hornets were ahead 3-2 when Brown relieved Candeloro with a Norfolk State runner at third and two outs in the eighth. He recorded the final out in the inning on a liner to first. Brown allowed a one-out walk in the ninth, but got the next batter to hit into a double play to end the game.

Candeloro was credited with the win to improve to 2-0 this season.  

Frey and Miller had two hots each for the Hornets.
