Newark, Del. (Mar. 13, 2013) --- J.P. Frey drove in two runs and freshman George Michael worked out of a sixth inning jam to lead Delaware State to a 6-4 win over Delaware in game one of a doubleheader at Bob Hannah Stadium today.

The Hens won game two 6-5 on a walk-off double in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap the Hornets' four-game win streak. Delaware also halted a three-game losing streak against DSU with its win in the nightcap.

Delaware State opened the game one scoring on a run without benefit of a hit in the top of the first inning. Frey and Cameron Cecil drew walks from Delaware starter Brandon Hinkle (0-2) to lead off the inning. Each moved up a base on a wild pitch and Frey later scored on another wild pitch by the Blue Hen starter. The Hornets left two men in scoring position when the inning ended.

Delaware State scored two runs in the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. Mitchell Moore singled to lead off the second. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and moved to third on a one-out single by D.J, Miller. Frey followed with a double, driving home Moore to give the Hornets a 2-0 lead. Miller scored DSU's third run on a ground out by Cecil in the inning.

Delaware scored two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the Hornets' lead to 3-2.

The Hornets added a run in the fourth to open up a 4-2 lead. Mike Alexander reached base when he was hit by a pitch with one out. He stole second and moved to third on a throwing error. Eddie Sorondo followed with a single to score Alexander.

DSU added a run in the top of the sixth to pull ahead 5-2. Hassan Evans singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a two-out single by Frey. The Hornets failed to add to their lead when they left the bases loaded in the sixth.

Delaware answered with two runs off Delaware State starter Elliott Gardner (1-0) in the bottom of the sixth to pull to within 5-4. Michael relieved Gardner with two outs and two men on in the Blue Hen sixth. He ended the threat by getting UD's Nick Ferdinand to ground out to short for the final out of the inning.

The Hornets added an insurance run in the seventh. Sorondo singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a Delaware error to give DSU a 6-4.

Michael allowed a two-out double in the Blue Hen seventh, but recorded the final out on a liner to third to earn the save.

In the nightcap, Delaware's E.J. Stolzfus doubled in the game-winning run with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Hornets trailed 5-4 when freshman Mitchell Moore led off the top of the seventh with his team-leading second home run of the season to tie the game.
