Dover, Del. (Mar. 10, 2013) --- Zach Adkins tossed a one-hit complete game to lead Delaware State to a 4-0 win over St. Peter's and a sweep of the three-game series at Soldier Field this afternoon. The Hornets recorded two shutouts, and outscored the Peacocks 23-1 in the series.

Adkins took a no-hitter into the eighth inning. He retired the first two batters in the eighth before St. Pete's James Spadaccini hit a hard grounder up the middle off Adkins' glove and toward the shortstop hole for an infield single. It was the only hit for the Peacocks. Adkins walked the first two batters in the ninth before retiring the next three hitters to record the second complete game of his career.

He struck out four and walked three in the contest. He also hit two batters.

Delaware State opened the scoring with three runs in the second inning. Aaron Nardone started the rally with a one-out walk. Mike Alexander followed with a single to right field, advancing Nardone to third. The next batter, D.J. Miller, reached base on a bunt single. Nardone scored on a St. Pete's throwing error on the play. Three batters later, J.P. Frey singled in two runs to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead.    

Delaware State scored its fourth run on a bunt single by Justin Allen in the fourth.

Miller had two of DSU's six hits.     

Hornet pitchers allowed just 14 singles and one run in 25 innings during the series.    

The Hornets return to action on Wednesday (Mar. 13) with two seven-inning games at Delaware. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium in Newark.
