Durham, N.C. (Feb. 27, 2013) --- Delaware State scored four runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-6 come-from-behind win over North Carolina Central in the first game of a double-header at the Durham Athletic Park today. The Eagles won the nightcap 5-1 to snap the Hornets' four-game win streak.
In the opener, Delaware State trailed 6-5 before the sixth inning outburst. Freshman Mitchell Moore led off the inning with home run to right field to tie the score at 6-6. It was the Hornets' first round tripper of the season. D.J. Miller followed with a double. Miller advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by J.P. Frey. The next batter, Cameron Cecil, doubled down to right field line to score Miller, giving DSU a 7-6 lead. Cecil advanced to third on a wild pitch and Mike Alexander was hit by a pitch to give the Hornets runners on third and first. Alexander stole second and Cecil scored on a NC Central error on the play to stretch the DSU lead to 8-6. Ryan Haas followed with a single to right field, scoring Alexander with the Hornets' ninth run.

Delaware State missed a chance to inflict more damage by leaving the bases loaded to end the inning.
Sophomore Zach Candeloro pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for the Hornets. Candeloro allowed one hit and struck out one for his first career victory.

DSU trailed 1-0 before scoring four runs on two hits in the top of the third inning. Cecil had a two-run double and Eddie Sorondo singled in a run to give the Hornets a 3-1 lead. Delaware State scored its fourth run when Aaron Nardone drew a bases loaded walk.
North Carolina Central answered with five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-4 lead.
The Hornets scored an unearned run in the fourth to cut the Eagles' lead to 6-5.
Cecil was 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, while Haas had two hits and a RBI in three at bats in the opener for DSU.
In the nightcap, NCCU's Jordan Quinn scattered eight singles in a complete game win. Quinn struck out three and walked one to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Luis Diaz and Ronald Thompson drove in two runs each to lead the Eagles' seven-hit attack.
The Eagles opened the scoring when Diaz singled in two runs in the second inning. NCCU added a run in the fourth to open up a 3-0 lead.
The Hornets got on the board with a run in the fifth inning. Justin Allen singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Cameron Onderko to cut the Eagles' lead to 3-1.
NCCU added two insurance runs in the last of the sixth inning.
Allen and Nardone had two hits each for the Hornets in the nightcap.
DSU starter Bobby Brown was the losing pitcher. He allowed six hits and three runs in four innings to fall to 0-1 this season.
The Hornets (4-3) will play their 2013 home opener this Friday with the first of a three-game series against Niagara. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Soldier Field. The teams will also play single games on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) and Sunday (1:00 p.m.).
