Stony Brook, N.Y. (Sep. 21, 2018) --- Stoney Brook broke open a close match with two goals in a three-minute stretch of the second period to defeat Delaware State 3-0 this evening. The Seawolves won for the third time in their last four matches to improve to 5-5, while the Hornets fell to 2-8-1 this season.

Stony Brook drew first blood early in the contest when Alyssa Francese scored on a penalty kick in the eighth minute.

Goal keeper Leslie Fazio kept the Hornets in the game with seven saves after the Stony Brook score.

The Seawolves held on to their one-goal lead until the 73rd minute when Julie Johnstonbaugh scored an unassisted goal on a shot over Fazio from 12 yards out.

A little more than three minutes later (76’), Chelsie DePonte scored to give Stony Brook a 3-0 lead.

The Hornets had three shots in the match, but none on goal. The Seawolves had 12 shots on goal.

Fazio matched her season high with nine saves.

Delaware State will wrap up a three-match road swing with a visit to Loyola (Md.) in its next contest on Oct. 1. The Hornets return home on Oct. 4 to face South Carolina State At 7 p.m.
