CLINTON, Md. - After scoring 33 runs and recording 26 hits on Saturday, the offense stayed hot Sunday afternoon at Cosco Field as the Delaware State University softball team defeated Howard University, 11-3, to sweep the Bison in the season series.

The Hornets (22-16-1; 12-3 MEAC) had five players post multi-hit games and were led by senior Breanne Parr (Camarillo, Calif.) and sophomore Ashlyn Campbell (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.), who each went 3-for-4 with a double.  Parr finished with two runs and two RBI while Campbell posted one run for Del State.

Senior Casey Beighley (Los Angeles, Calif.) went 2-for-2 on the day, with a two-run home run and double.  Fellow senior Jordan Reid (Accokeek, Md.) continued her hot weekend, going 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base.  Freshman Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) finished the day 2-for-4 with two runs.

As was the case all weekend, the Hornets put up runs right away Sunday afternoon.  Green singled to lead off the game and Reid reached on a throwing error by HU third baseman Jenny Ly.  Sophomore Stephanie Martello (Oxnard, Calif.) took advantage of the situation and sent a three-RBI shot over the left center fence for her fourth home run of the season.

Up 3-1, DSU posted another big inning in the third, recording four runs on five hits.  Parr led off the frame with a ground rule double along the left field line.  Senior Tawny Reeger (Simi Valley, Calif.) then cracked a home run to right field to take the 5-1 lead.  Campbell then singled to center field before Beighley homered to left field to give the Hornets a 7-1 advantage.

Del State added another run in the fourth as Parr singled and moved to third on a double from Campbell.  Beighley then laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Parr and go up, 8-1.

The Bison cut their deficit to 8-3 in the bottom of the fourth as Anasia Stinson put up a two-run homer with two outs.   Howard then loaded the bases before Beighley got out of the jam in the pitcher's circle, inducing a fly out to left field.

Wanting to finish the game in the fifth inning with mercy-run rules, the Hornets had to put up at least three runs in the fifth and hold the Bison scoreless.  DSU did just that as they put up three straight singles to start the frame.  Junior Kelsey Lewis (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) then scored the ninth run on an RBI ground out from Martello.  Parr continued a hot weekend as she followed with a two-RBI single over the second baseman's head to go up, 11-3.

Green came in to pitch for Beighley in the bottom of the fifth and gave up two hits, but was able to close out the game without allowing anymore Howard runs.

Beighley earned her seventh win of the season as she went 4.0 innings, giving up seven hits, three runs (all earned) and two walks.

The Bison wrapped up their season with a 9-32 record and were 7-11 in conference play.

The Hornets host non-conference opponent Towson at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hornets' Nest before concluding the regular season next weekend at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
