Dover, Del. (May 17, 2017) --- Fourteen members of the Delaware State baseball team have been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their success in the classroom.
The MEAC today announced its 2017 Baseball All-Academic selections, honoring 96 student-athletes from the conference's nine baseball programs. MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
Delaware State is tied with North Carolina A&T for tops in the league with 14 All-Academic selections.
The DSU honorees are: Jacob Bartlett (sr.), Austin Bentley (jr.), Garrett Coverdale (jr.), Lane DeLeon (jr.), Travis Dill (jr.), Todd Henry (so.), Kyle Mace (sr.), Darnel Maisonet (so.), Chris Mako (so.), Sean McGrath (so.), Darrien Ragins (jr.), Evan Regez (sr.) and Gabe Rivera (jr.).
“I congratulate our baseball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0 or better grade point average during this academic school year,” said MEAC Commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas. “In addition to recognizing the student-athletes' achievements, I commend the institutions' academic support staffs, coaches and parents for their support in the success of these student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.”
Hornet baseball also earned the DSU “Top Academic Men's Team” award for the 2016-17 year. The award, presented at the school's year-end banquet, honors the Hornet men's program with the highest team grade point average.
