Annapolis, Md. (Oct. 8, 2018) --- Delaware State struggled on offense until late in the match, resulting in a 3-1 loss at Navy this evening. The Midshipmen won for the sixth time in seven contests to improve to 8-4-3, while Hornets fell to 2-10-2.

The match was scoreless until Navy broke the ice in the 23rd minute. Kristina Dzhandzhapanyan was the goal scorer, taking a feed from Caddie Higginson and firing a shot that deflected off DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio (fr.) and into the net.

The Middies held the one-goal lead until the 62nd minute when Regan McQain scored on a put-back off a shot from Emily Keast.

McQuain also had a hand in Navy’s third goal, assisting on a score by Hannah Miller in the 87th minute to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage.

Delaware State finally got on the board about 20 seconds later when Savannah Ay (fr.) scored into a wide open net for her third goal of the season. Ay is second on the Hornets in goals (3) and points (6), trailing only Jade Jamison (5) for team-high honors.

Navy outshot DSU 30-8, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Fazio had eight saves in goal for the Hornets.

Delaware State is home for its next two contests, beginning with a visit by Canisius on Oct. 15 at Alumni Stadium. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. DSU will play its final home match of the season on Oct. 17 against Yale, also at Alumni Stadium (7:00 p.m.).
