Dover, Del. (Oct. 12, 2019) ----The Delaware State volleyball team plays its next five contests on the road, beginning with a visit to The Citadel on Sunday (Oct. 13) for a non-conference match beginning at 6:00  p.m. in Charleston, S.C.

The Hornets have won two of their last three matches to stand at 7-11 overall this season (2-2 MEAC).

The Bulldogs, members of the Southern Conference,  had dropped six straight to post a 4-12 record entering the weekend.

Delaware State is No. 1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a .200 hitting percentage and third in the league in kills at 12.0 per set. The Hornets also rank second in the MEAC in service aces with a 1.82 per set average. Hornet freshman Jasmal Cruz is the league leader in aces at 0.51 per set (33 total).

DSU’s Sydney Lewis (fr.) and Sydney Armbrister (gr.) rank third and fourth, respectively, in the MEAC in hitting percentage. Lewis has a .298 percentage, recording 87 kills and 33 errors on 181 attacks, while Armbrister has 92 kills and 33 errors on 208 attempts for a .284 hitting percentage this season.

In addition, Lewis ranks second in the conference in blocks at 1.02 per set (53 total).

Delaware State also features two of the MEAC leaders in kills.

Anadys Valentin (fr.) is sixth in the league at 3.03 kills per set (203 in 67 sets) total), while Ryanne Burnett has 169 kills in 56 sets for a 3.02 average.

Hornet setter Jelena Dukic (jr.) is second in the MEAC in assists at 8.39 per set ((562 total).

Cruz also has a team-high 259 digs to rank fifth in the conference at 3.98 per set.

Delaware State will also visit South Carolina State on Oct. 14 (6:00 pm), Maryland-Eastern Shore on Oct. 15 (6:00 p.m.), North Carolina Central on Oct. 18 (6:00 p.m.) and North Carolina A&T on Oct. 20 (1:00 p.m.) before returning home to face Bethune-Cookman on Oct. 25 (6:00 p.m.).
