Dover, Del. (Dec. 2, 2018) --- The Delaware State men’s basketball team continues its non-conference schedule with a home contest against Cairn (Pa.) Monday evening. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets (1-7) are looking to snap a three-game slide, including a 90-61 loss to St. Bonaventure last Saturday.
Saleik Edwards (sr.) led four DSU double-figure scorers with 15 points in the contest. Edwards was five-for-six from the field, highlighted by four-of-five shooting from three-point territory. He ranks third in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in three-point field goals at 2.9 per game (23 total). In addition, Edwards is 12th in the MEAC in scoring at 12.6 points per game.
As a team, Delaware State is third in the conference in three-pointers at 8.5 per game.
Former Sussex Tech (Del.) High School standout Kevin Larkin (sr.), returning to action after missing the previous game due to injury, matched his season-high with 13 points and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds in the St. Bonaventure contest.
Delaware State also features two of the MEAC’s top rebounders. Ameer Bennett (so.) is sixth in the league in rebounds at 6.5 per game, while Jonathan Mitchell (sr.) ranks ninth at 5.8 per contest.
Hornet point guard Pinky Wiley (so.) is sixth in the MEAC in assists at 3.6 per game. Wiley has 10 helpers and just three turnovers in the last two games.
NCAA Division III Cairn is 4-3 this season. The Highlanders have won two straight and four of their last five games, including a 93-89 victory over Centenary University (N.J.) on Saturday.
Julian Collazo is the team leader in scoring at 17.6 points per game, and the top rebounder at 9.0 per game.
Delaware State and Cairn are meeting for the second straight season. The Hornets won 71-50 in Memorial Hall in the last meeting.
