Dover, Del. (Oct. 16, 2018) --- Delaware State forced a fourth set, but couldn’t complete the comeback in a 3-1 loss to La Salle in Memorial Hall Tuesday evening. The Explorers won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-11, before the Hornets stayed alive in the match with a 25-21 win in set three. La Salle rebounded to win the fourth set 25-18 to claim the match win.
Devin Corah led the Explorers with 16 kills, while Madison Kuch and Samantha Graver added 13 each. Kathryn Wood topped all players with 48 assists and Jenses Sharrits tied for match-high honors with 15 digs for La Salle.
Devin Ruble (fr.) led Delaware State with 11 kills, while Caroline Rakoski (fr.) contributed 10. DSU’s Nia Scott (fr.) also tied for the match high with 15 digs and Milexa Cardona (fr.) led the Hornets with 32 assists.
Trailing 2-0 in the match, Delaware State fell behind 10-7 in the third set. The Hornets responded by scoring nine of the next 12 points, and opened up a 16-13 lead on a block by Sydney Armbrister (sr.) and Rakoski.
DSU opened up its biggest lead of the third set, 23-18, on a kill by Mayah Ngundam (so.).
In the fourth set, La Salle opened up a 17-9 lead and the Hornets could get no closer than five points the rest of the way.
Delaware State returns to action on Oct. 24 with a non-conference home match against Towson (6:00 p.m.).
