Baltimore, Md. (Oct. 1, 2018) --- Loyola scored less than three minutes into the contest and cruised to a 5-1 victory over Delaware State in a women’s soccer contest Monday evening.

The Greyhounds won their second straight match to improve to 5-7 this season, while the Hornets dropped their second in a row to fall to 2-9-1.

Four Loyola players scored in the match and the Greyhounds also benefitted from an own goal. Freshman Mary O’Conner accounted for Delaware State’s lone goal on a penalty kick late in the contest.  It was the Hornets’ only shot on goal in the match.

The Greyhounds drew first blood when Sarah Bayer fired a shot past DSU goal keeper Leslie Fazio off a feed from Kaleigh Gallagher in the third minute.

Loyola opened up a 2-0 lead on a goal by Jourdan Ziff in the 23rd minute and pulled ahead by three when Ann-Kathrin Wolfram found the net in the 38th minute.

DSU trailed 4-0 when a shot by Loyola caromed off Hornet forward Daijah Norris and into the net to give the Greyhounds a five-goal advantage.

Delaware State avoided the shutout on O’Conner’s first career goal on the penalty kick in the 69th minute to close out the scoring.

The Hornets return home this Thursday (Oct. 4) to take on South Carolina State. The match begins at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
