Baltimore, Md. (Sep. 21, 2018) --- The Delaware State volleyball team posted a season-best .311 hitting percentage and committed a season-low 10 errors in a 3-0 victory over South Carolina State in a match at Morgan State University this afternoon. The scores were 25-12, 25-14 and 25-23, marking the Hornets’ first 3-0 sweep since Oct. 12, 2014 vs. Norfolk State.

DSU’s Mayah Ngundam (so.) led all players with 12 kills, while Carolina Rakoski (fr.) added nine. Milexa Cardona (fr.) had a match-high 20 assists. Nia Scott collected nine digs to top all players for the Hornets.

Delaware State recorded 33 kills on 74 attacks in the match. DSU’s previous low in errors this season was 12 vs. Winthrop on Sep. 8.

Ngundam leads DSU with 127 kills, while Cardona raised her team-high assist total to 346 this season.

In the first set, the score was 5-5 before the Hornets ran off the next eight points to take control. Rakoski had four kills on seven attempts in the set for DSU.

The Hornets used another 8-0 run to seize control of set two. DSU held its biggest lead of the set,  17-4,  on a service error by the Bulldogs. SC State (0-8) could get no closer than eight points the rest of the way.

In the third set, Ngundam had six kills and Rakoski four to lead the way.

The Hornets (2-14) return to action with a match against North Carolina Central on Saturday (Sep. 22) at 11:00 a.m.  at Coppin State University in Baltimore.

DSU returns home next Friday (Sep. 28) to face MEAC North rival Maryland-Eastern Shore (6:00 p.m.).
