Dover, Del. (Oct. 23, 2017) --- Delaware State senior Sabina Szmajduch (Rybnik, Poland) has been recognized by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for her play last week.
Szmajduch has been named MEAC Co-Player-of-the-Week for the week ending Oct. 22, sharing the award with sophomore Iva Vujosevic of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
An outside hitter, Szmajduch recorded 41 kills, 42 digs, six aces and three blocks to help lead the Hornets to a 2-1 record last week.
She posted double-doubles in two of the matches, tallying 20 kills and 20 digs in a 3-1 victory over Coppin State on Oct. 18; and collecting 14 kills and 14 digs in a four-set win at Norfolk State on Oct. 22.
For the season, Szmajduch is tops on the Hornets in total kills (189) and kills per set (2.66).
The Delaware State volleyball team is home for its next three contests, beginning this Sunday (Oct. 29) against defending MEAC champion Howard. The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Memorial Hall.
The Hornets will also host Coppin State (Nov. 3) and Morgan State (Oct. 5) during the homestand.
