Orlando, Fla. (Mar. 11, 2017) --- The Delaware State softball team was unable to do much offensively in losses to Ohio State and nationally-ranked Georgia at the Central Florida Wilson/DiMarini Tournament today.

The Hornets fell to Ohio State 7-0 in their first game and blanked by No. 16 Georgia 11-0 in their second contest of the day.

Ohio State starter Shelby McCombs allowed just one hit and struck out six in five innings to earn the win for the Buckeyes. DSU’s only hit in the game was a one-out single by Mika Lumsden in the bottom of the fourth inning. Morgan Ray tossed two hitless innings in relief for Ohio State.

Bri Betschel and Anna Kirk drove in two runs each for the Buckeyes, who scored two runs in the second and fourth innings, and three in the sixth.

DSU starter Hannah Shields (0-6) allowed seven hits and four runs in four innings to suffer the loss.

In the Georgia contest, Ciara Bryan was 2-for-2 with four runs batted in and Sydni Emanuel had four hits and a RBI in four at bats to lead the Bulldogs’ 14-hit attack.

Bryan singled in two runs in Georgia’s five-run first inning. The Bulldogs added three runs in the second and third innings. Bryan singled in a run in the second and was credited with a RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the third.   

The Hornets managed four hits off two Georgia pitchers, singles by Lumsden, Dani Velez, Desiree Moreno and Kayleigh Berry.

Lumsden was a combined 2-for-4 in the two games to raise her average to a team-high .333 this season.

Starter Tara Tursellino (0-6) allowed 11 hits and eight runs in two innings to take the loss for DSU in the contest.

Delaware State (1-14) and Georgia will meet again on Sunday’s final day of the Central Florida Tournament. Game time is scheduled for 9:30 am.
