HORNETS (3-5; 0-0 MEAC) VS. UMES HAWKS (0-6; 0-0 MEAC)

Delaware State is home for the first time since Nov. 14 to face rival Maryland-Eastern Shore in the 2012-13 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for each team. The Hornets (3-5) bring a five-game losing streak into the contest. DSU is coming off an 84-51 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday. Freshman Miles Bowman was a bright spot for the Hornets in the game, tallying 15 points and 13 rebounds for his first career "double-double." Tahj Tate added 11 points, while Kendall Gray led al players with five blocks in the Eastern Kentucky contest.

UMES is seeking its first win of the season (0-6). The Hawks have been idle since a 62-46 loss to Loyola-Chicago at the University of South Florida Tournament on Nov. 18.  UMES led 21-19 at the half, but was outscored 43-25 in the final 20 minutes. Troy Snyder led the Hawks with  13 points (5-11 FG) and six rebounds. Ishaq Pitts added 10 points for UMES (4-6 FG) in the Loyola contest.

DSU vs. UMES SERIES (DSU leads 51-46)
Delaware State has won 13 of the last 16 meetings between the teams to open up a 51-45 lead in the series. The teams split two meetings last season, with each winning on the road. The Hornets won the first 2011-12 contest 78-68 at UMES. DSU's Casey Walker led all players with 21 points (8-14 FG). Marques Oliver had 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the contest. UMES won last season's second meeting 63-60 in overtime at DSU's Memorial Hall. It was the first win for the Hawks at DSU since 2004, snapping a seven-game Memorial Hall losing streak. Ronald Spencer was high scorer for UMES with 17 points (8-10 FG) in the contest. Walker again led the Hornets with 15 points, while Marques Oliver posted another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Hornets and Hawks are scheduled to meet again on Jan. 19 at UMES.
