Delaware State and Fairleigh Dickinson meet in Texas in a South Padre Island Invitational contest. After winning their first three games, the Hornets have dropped the last two to fall to 3-2 this season. DSU is coming off a 69-50 setback at Northwestern in a South Padre Island Invitational contest on Tuesday. The Hornets played most of the game without their top two inside players. Starting center Kendall Gray missed the contest due to injury, while starting forward Marques Oliver played just nine injury-plagued minutes. Tahj Tate led Delaware State with a season-high 23 points in the Northwestern contest. DSU is 0-2 in the South Padre Island Invitational with two tournament games remaining.
Fairleigh Dickinson is 0-3 on the season. The Knights, also 0-2 in the South Padre Island Invitational, are coming off a 91-58 loss to Illinois State on Tuesday. The Knights were only behind 41-33 at the half, but were outscored 50-25 in the final 20 minutes. Melquan Bolding led three FDU players with 16 points in the contest.
DSU VS. Fairleigh Dickinson (series tied 2-2)
The Hornets and Knights are meeting for the first time since the 2002-03 season, and fifth time overall. Delaware State has won the last two meetings between the teams to tie the all-time series at 2-2. The last time the teams met, the Hornets posted an 83-75 victory on December 7, 2002 at Delaware State's Memorial Hall. DSU shot a school-record 72.1% from the floor in the contest (31-for-43). Delaware State also won the previous meeting between the teams 79-73 at Fairleigh Dickinson during the 2001-02 season. FDU won the first two contests with the Hornets, posting a 72-56 victory during the 1984-85 season and winning 77-62 during the 1988-89 campaign.
