THE GAME
Delaware State takes on Howard University in a battle of two of the MEAC's 2012 surprise teams. The Hornets have won five of their last six games to improve to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the MEAC. DSU is tied with Howard and North Carolina Central for second place in the league standings. The Hornets are coming off a 35-27 victory over Hampton in their last outing. Travis Tarpley had five catches for 171 and two touchdowns to lead the DSU offense. The Hornets scored 17 points off four Hampton turnovers in the contest. Howard is also 6-4 overall and 5-2 in league play. The Bison are trying to bounce back from a 69-26 loss to nationally ranked Georgia Southern last weekend.  Delaware State was picked to finish 10th in the 2012 MEAC preseason rankings, while Howard was predicted to finish eighth.

THE SERIES
The teams are meeting for the 55th consecutive year and 69th time overall, making it Delaware State's oldest rivalry. The Hornets have won the last five meetings to cut Howard's lead to 34-33-1 in the all-time series. DSU won last year's meeting 39-36 at Alumni Stadium.  Nick Elko connected with Travis Tarpley on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 2:18 left for the game-winning score. Tarpley set a team record with 13 catches in the contest (150 yards). Elko completed 28-of-44 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Tarpley. The Hornets had a season-high 412 yards in the game. The last time the teams met at Howard, Delaware State racked up season-highs in points, total yards (421) and passing yards (400) in a 53-43 win in 2010. DSU's Justin Wilson had nine catches for a career-high 217 yards to lead the Hornets.
