ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - The Delaware State University softball team left 13 base runners stranded Thursday morning as North Carolina A&T stunned the Hornets, 3-1, in the first round of the 2012 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament, held at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

Senior Breanne Parr (Camarillo, Calif.) led Del State, the No. 1 seed in the north, from the plate, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double.  Fellow senior and three-time MEAC Player of the Year Jordan Reid (Accokeek, Md.) went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.

The Aggies, the No. 4 seed in the south, held the Hornets scoreless through the majority of the game, before DSU made an attempted comeback in the top of the seventh inning.  Parr lead off with a double to center and eventually scored on a two-out triple to right field from senior Casey Beighley (Los Angeles, Calif.) to make things 3-1.  That is all Del State would put up as junior Skye Boris (Magnolia, Del.) took a full count and fouled out to Trenea Jones at third base.

The Hornets left the bases loaded and stranded two runners twice in the game.

Beighley gave up four hits, one run, one walk and struck out one in 2.0 innings to move to 8-5 on the year.  Sophomore Stephanie Sarris (Rohnert Park, Calif.) pitched a solid 4.0 innings, giving up two hits, one run and two walks with two strikeouts.

Hope Fletcher drove in two runs and Zabresha Blakeney scored twice to lead N.C. A&T (16-33).  Ashira Dobison gave up eight hits, one run and one error in 7.0 innings to earn the victory.

The Hornets (25-17-1) next take on the No. 1 seed in the south, Savannah State (24-23) at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.  The Lady Tigers lost to Hampton, 5-4, in eight innings of play Thursday morning.
