Delaware State is home for the first time since Feb. 6 to take on Howard in a crucial Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest. The Hornets (13-12; 10-3 MEAC) are second in the MEAC, one game behind front-runner Savannah State (11-2). DSU has won nine straight MEAC contests to climb back into the race. The Hornets are coming off a 74-68 double-overtime win at Hampton on Monday. The Hornets scored the go-ahead points on a three-pointer by Tahj Tate with 2:09 left in the second overtime. Tate hit another basket and the Hornets hit three of four free throws in the last 1:09 of the game to seal the win. Tate and Marques Oliver each had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead DSU. Howard (9-19; 6-9) brings a two-game win streak into the contest. The Bison are coming off a 53-51 home win over UMES on Monday. Glen Andrews led a balanced Howard scoring attack with 10 points in the contest. Delaware State plays its last three regular season games at home. MEAC leader Savannah State hosts No. Carolina Central on Saturday (Feb. 25) at 4:00 p.m.
DSU VS. HOWARD SERIES HISTORY (HOWARD leads 50-45 ... since 1967-68 season)
The Hornets and Bison are meeting for the second time this season.. Howard won the first meeting 72-65 on Dec. 6 in Washington, D.C. The Hornets trailed by as many as 22 in the second half, but could get no closer than the final score the rest of the way. Casey Walker and Kendall Gray led DSU with 17 points each. Howard's Prince Okoroh (10-12 FGs) had a game high 21 points, while teammate Dadrian Collins added 18 (7-10 FGs; 4-4 3pt. FGs). Howard has won three of the last four meetings between the teams to open up a 50-45 lead (since 1967-68). The Bison have lost 13 straight at DSU since a 74-73 win during the 1994-95 season.
