Dallas, Texas (July 10, 2008) --- Former Delaware State University football standout Josh Brite has earned another major academic honor. Brite is among 441 players named to the 2008 National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of members from all college divisions who maintain a 3.2 grade-point-average or better.

Brite, who received his bachelor’s degree this spring, had a 4.0 grade-point average during his two years at Delaware State.

The Hampshire Honor Society recognition is the latest academic award for Brite, who was selected as a 2007-08 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Post-Graduate Scholarship recipient in June. He is the first DSU student-athlete to receive the award.

Brite was also selected to the 10th annual Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association Academic All-Star Team last fall, and was one of eight finalists for the annual FCS-ADA post-graduate scholarship. In addition, he was selected as the 2007-08 Delaware State University Male Scholar-Athlete-of-the-Year and is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society.

The Bakersfield, Cal., native plans to pursue a master’s in sports administration from Delaware State.

Brite competed in 23 games at Delaware State. He averaged 37.0 yards per punt for the Hornets’ 2007 MEAC championship team. In 2006, he was second in the MEAC in field goal percentage (.667) and third among kickers in scoring (5.4 ppg).

Qualifications for membership in the NFF National Honor Society include:

  • Being a starter or a significant substitute in one’s last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university;
  • Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and
  • Meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
