Spencer joined the Delaware State staff in August 2019. He most recently served as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Div. II Virginia Union University since 2015.
In 2018, he helped guide the Panthers to an 8-3 overall record, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association North championship and NCAA Div. II playoff berth. VUU also ranked No 1 in total defense among all NCAA Div. II schools that season.
Spencer’s collegiate coaching experience also includes a stint as Assistant Defensive Line /Long Snapper Coach at Jacksonville State in 2002.
He began his college coaching career as a graduate assistant under legendary head coach Bobby Bowden at Florida State University from 1989 to 91.
Spencer has also served as head or assistant coach at some of the top high schools in talent rich Florida. He led St. Thomas Aquinas and Mariner high schools to conference championships and deep state playoff runs during the 1990s.
After a standout scholastic playing career at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), Spencer received a scholarship to attend the University of Alabama under coaching legend Paul “Bear” Bryant. He later played for Crimson Tide head coach Ray Perkins and competed for current NFL head coach Bruce Arians after transferring to Temple.
