Detroit, Mich. (Apr. 6, 2018) --- Detroit Mercy scored the first 10 goals of the game and never looked back in a 21-5 victory over Delaware State in the Hornets’ Southern Conference opener on Friday.
Kristina Ellis scored four goals, while four other players tallied three each to lead the Titans.
Lauren Perry and Olivia Summerville had two goals each for Delaware State.
Ellis scored her first goal of the game to give Detroit a 3-0 lead with 25:23 left in the first period.
Perry scored DSU’s first goal on a pass from Summerville to cut the Titans’ lead to 10-1 at the 12:29 mark of the opening period. The Hornets also scored the next two goals, one each for Summerville and Perry, to pull to within 10-3.
The Titans led 12-5 at the half.
Detroit scored nine times, while Delaware State was shutout in the second half.
For the season, Perry has a team-high 11 goals and 14 points. Summerville is second on the Hornets with nine goals and 11 points.
Delaware State will remain in the Wolverine State for its next game on Sunday (Apr. 8) at Central Michigan in another Southern Conference match. Game time is 4 p.m. in Kalamazoo.
