Princess Anne, MD (Feb. 26) --- The Delaware State Lady Hornets were defeated by the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks 76-56, on Monday night at the Hytche Center.

The Hawks outscored the Lady Hornets 19-15 in the opening quarter.

Maryland Eastern Shore forward Jordyn Smith scored 14 of her 16 points in the first quarter.

Lanayjha Ashe scored ten points in the second quarter for DSU, but the Hawks still outscored the Lady Hornets 16-13.

Ashe led all scorers with 18 points in the game. She also added six rebounds, and six assists.

MDES received a huge boost by the bench during the period, as their second string scored 14 during the quarter.

Hawks led 35-28 heading into halftime.

MDES scored 23 points in the third quarter. 21 of those points were from the seven three-pointers they made in the period. The Hawks led by as many as 16 points during the quarter, and held a 58-44 lead heading into the fourth.

The Lady Hornets gave up 18 points in the fourth quarter, 13 of the Hawks points were scored on second chance opportunities.

Delaware State shot 23-of-71 from the field (32.4%) and 7-of-27 on three-pointers (25.9%).

Keke Barber and Ryan Jones scored 11 points each. Genell Addison added nine points (all in the second half).

Maryland Eastern Shore made 29-of-68 field goal attempts (42.6%), including 12-of-29 three-point attempts (41.4%).

Keyera Eaton led four Hawks in double figures with 17 points.

The Lady Hornets will close out the regular season on their home court against Morgan State on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
