Princess Anne, Md. (Feb. 26, 2018) --- Delaware State suffered through one of its coldest shooting spells  of the season in a 59-47 loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore in a MEAC men’s basketball contest at the Hychte Center Monday evening.

The Hornets were just 17-for-56 from the field (30.4%), including 4-of-16 from three-point range (25.0%), to fall to 3-27 overall and 1-14 in the MEAC this season.

Maryland-Eastern Shore improved to 7-24 and 3-13.

Tyler Jones was top scorer for the Hawks with 21 points to lead all players and also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Jones was 8-for-12 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free throw line.

Cameron Bacote came off the bench to add 11 points for the MDES.

Simon Okolue was high scorer for Delaware State with 12 points (4-6 FG; 4-5 FT). He also led the Hornets with eight rebounds.  

Marquis Collins chipped in 10 points for DSU.

Delaware State led 11-6 before the Hawks began to take control of the game.

MDES scored 18 of the next 20 points, and opened up a 23-13 lead on a three-pointer by Logan McIntosh at the 4:57 mark of the first half.

The Hawks led 25-17 at the break.

The Hornets only trailed 41-33 at the 10-minute mark of the second half, but could get no closer. Colen Gaynor capped off a 13-3 MDES run with a lay-up to give the Hawks their biggest lead, 54-36, with 2:55 left to play.

Delaware State will close out the 2017-18 regular season at home on Thursday (Mar. 1) against Morgan State. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. following the DSU/Morgan State women’s contest.

DSU’s six senior players will be honored prior to the contest.
