West Hartford, Conn. (Feb. 24, 2018) --- The Delaware State lacrosse team trailed by one after the first eight minutes, but allowed 12 straight goals in a 20-4 loss at Hartford in the Hornets’ 2018 opener on Saturday.

Billy McLaughlin had seven goals and two assists, while Debbie Phillips tallied five goals and two assists to lead the Hawks.

Lauren Perry (sr.) and Olivia Summerville scored two goals each to account for the Hornets’ scoring.

Phillips tallied the game’s first goal and McLaughlin had back-to-back scores to give Hartford a 3-0 lead.

Perry scored Delaware State’s first goal of the game and season on an unassisted shot at the 19:21 mark of the first period.

The Hornets pulled to within 3-2 when Summerville scored on a free position shot with 12:42 left in the opening period.

Hartford blew the game with a 12-0 run to open up a 15-2 lead. McLaughlin scored three time and Phillips twice during the rally by the Hawks.

Perry and Summerville each scored unassisted goals in the second period for the Hornets.

DSU was outshot 45-13 in the contest.

Delaware State will return to action on Sunday, March 11 against Gardner Webb at the DE Turf Sports Complex on Route 113 in Frederica, Del. Game time is 12 pm.
