Dover, Del. (Feb. 6, 2018) --- Delaware State is the favorite to win the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division baseball race, according to a poll of league head coaches and sports information representatives announced this week.
The Hornets collected 13 of 18 first place votes and 67 total points in the poll. Delaware State is seeking its first MEAC North crown since 2014.
Norfolk State, winner of the last three North titles, is second in the 2018 poll with the five remaining first place votes and 56 points. The Spartans were runners-up in 2017 MEAC Baseball Tournament.
Coppin State (32 points) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (25) are picked to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Defending conference champ Bethune-Cookman is the heavy favorite to capture the five-team 2018 MEAC Southern Division race.
Delaware State opens its 2018 season with a four-game series at Savannah State Feb. 16-18. The Hornets will play their home opener on Feb. 23 against Rider.
DSU begins conference play with a three-game home showdown against Norfolk State Mar. 17-18 at Soldier Field.
