Dover, Del. (Feb. 1, 2018) --- Delaware State and Hampton are expected to wage a tough battle for the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division championship, according to a poll of league head coaches and sports information representatives released today.

Pollster give Hampton a slight edge in the 2018 North race, handing the Pirates 12 of 25 first place votes and 157 total points.

Delaware State is a close second in the poll, collecting 10 first place votes and 153 points.

Hampton and Delaware State were 1-2 in the 2017 Northern Division race, although the Hornets ended the Pirates’ season with a victory in the MEAC tournament to reach the championship final four.

Morgan State (113 points), Coppin State (84), Norfolk State (80), Howard (59) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (54) round out the 2018 MEAC North predicted order of finish.

Florida A&M, winner of the last four MEAC Softball titles, is the choice to capture the 2018 MEAC Southern Division championship.

The Rattlers picked up 134 total points and 13 first place votes, just ahead of 2017 runner-up Bethune-Cookman. The Wildcats collected 130 points and 10 first place votes.

Delaware State begins its 2018 softball season at the Liberty University Tournament Feb. 16-18 in Lynchburg, Va.

The Hornets will play their home opener on Mar. 20 against Villanova.

DSU begins MEAC play March 24-25 at home against Norfolk State.
