THE GAME
Delaware State (2-20; 0-7 MEAC) returns home to face the high-flying Savannah State Tigers. The Hornets have dropped their last 16 games, including a 61-47 loss to Morgan State in the most recent outing on Jan. 22. Freshman point guard Pinky Wiley was the only DSU player to score in double-figures with 11, while Simon Okolue has a team-high eight rebounds in the game. For the season, Okolue is the Hornets’ leading scorer at 10.9 points per game. He also tops the team in rebounding (7.2 pg) and blocks (21). Okolue has reached double-figures in scoring in 12 of the 20 games in which he has appeared, and has a team-high five double-doubles. Artem Tavakalyan is second on the Hornets with a 10.5 point per game average. He’s also DSU’s second leading rebounder (5.1 pg) and is tied with Wiley for the team lead with 28 three-point field goals. Wiley averages 9.3 points per game to rank third on the team and is the club leader with 52 assists. Redshirt freshman forward Marquis Collins has been a spark of late, tallying 52 points in the last three contests to raise his season average to 7.1 points per game. Collins scored a career-high 24 points vs. Florida A&M on Jan. 15, the high for a DSU player this season.  

Savannah State (8-13; 5-1 MEAC) is riding a four-game win streak. The Tigers are coming off a 104-99 overtime victory over Norfolk State in their last outing on Jan. 22. Dexter McClanahan poured in a game-high 37 points to lead five SSU players in double-figures in the contest. He was 12-for-19 from the field, including 7-of-13 on three-point shots; and also led the Tigers with eight rebounds in the game. Savannah State is the top scoring team in the MEAC, averaging 81.9 points per game. The Tigers have scored 100-or-more points in four games this season, including the last two. SSU also leads the league in three-pointers at 11.8 per game. McClanahan ranks eighth in the MEAC in scoring at 15.8 points per game. He’s also seventh in the conference in three-pointers at 2.3 per game (49 total). Teammate Alante Fenner averages 12.0 points per game to rank 14th among MEAC scorers.  

HORNETS vs. TIGERS SERIES HISTORY (SSU leads series 3-2)
This is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Savannah State won the lone 2016-17 contest 94-79 on its home court. The Tigers have won the last three meetings, including a victory in the 2016 MEAC Tournament. The last time the teams met at DSU, the Hornets prevailed 64-58 during the 2014-15 campaign.
