THE GAME
The injury-riddled Lady Hornets play their final home game of 2017 against the La Salle Explorers. Delaware State brings a three-game losing streak into the contest. The Lady Hornets have been idle since an 84-49 loss to Delaware on Dec. 10. DSU dressed just seven players for that contest. Newcomer Ryan Jones led Delaware State with a season-high 17 points, while Lanayjha Ashe added 14. Among the walking wounded for Delaware State is 2017-18 MEAC Preseason Player-of-the-Year NaJai Pollard, who is out indefinitely after suffering a knee injury vs. Robert Moris on Dec. 6. Pollard is tops on the Hornets and was second in the MEAC in scoring at 17.6 points per game. She is also among the league’s rebounding leaders this season. Other DSU players on the injured list are guard Gennell Addison (so.), Jamira Watkins (fr.), Arion Jackson (jr.),   Yasmine Batch (jr.) and Romeira Tucker (jr.).

La Salle, a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, has dropped its last three games, including a 70-44 setback to North Texas in its most recent contest on Dec. 9. Amy Griffin was the only Explorer in double figures with 12 points in the game. La Salle was also plagued by 27 turnovers in the contest. Griffin is the team’s top scorer at 17.6 points per game. She’s also averaging team-highs in rebounding (5.7 pg), assists (32) and three-point field goals (14). Adreana Miller is second on the team in scoring with a 12.1 point per game average.

HORNETS vs. EXPLORERS Series History
Delaware State and La Salle are meeting for the second straight season and fourth time overall. The Explorers won last year’s contest 78-38 in Philadelphia to open up a 3-0 series lead. Delaware State shot a season-low 20.8% in the game, hitting just 15-of-72 attempts from the floor, including 3-for-17 from three-point territory, in the contest. La Salle also defeated the Hornets in 1997 & 1998.

Delaware State and La Salle have each played Drexel this season. The Hornets fell to the Dragons 72-53 on Dec. 3, while La Sale lost to Drexel 79-54 on Nov. 16.
