Smyrna, Del. (Sep 9, 2017) --- The Lady Hornets hosted the cross-country season opener at their annual DSU Hornet Invitational, with DSU taking home a third-place finish (best finish since 2014).

Delaware State put forth a strong debut, finishing with one runner in the top 10 and four runners in the top 20.

The Lady Hornets were led by junior college transfer Katarzyna Rosikon from (Myslowice, Poland) with a top ten finish. Sophomore Sylvia Okafor (Woodbridge, VA) and Freshman Lananda Correia (Gaithersburg, MD) were close behind finishing in 12th and 13th place respectively.

Senior Loren Harris, (Woolwich Township, NJ) and Freshman Monet Peterson (Waldorf, MD), also finished in the top 20 and were a part of the Lady Hornets top five runners.

The emphasis for the race was all about making progress, and staying true to their fundamentals.

“The meet went very well and our athletes did a great job in the first meet of the season,” Head Coach Gwen Harris said. “We are still working hard to reach our goals this season, our returning athletes did a great job of improving their times from last year on the same course."

The Hornets return to action on Sep. 16 at Smyrna, Del. Start time is at 3:00 PM.
